From Wall Street Leadership to Nation Building: Why Koushik Marrikanti Chose to Return to India

In a time when many professionals look outward to build global careers, Koushik Marrikanti chose a path that turned that narrative around.

After spending over a decade in the United States where he rose to senior leadership roles at one of the world’s largest financial institutions, Koushik made a decision that reflected a deeper purpose. He chose to return to India.

For him, this was not about stepping away from opportunity, but about bringing global experience back home.

Koushik’s journey began with a clear belief: that data, technology, and innovation can solve some of the most complex challenges. This belief led him into the evolving field of fraud analytics and financial risk management areas that have become critical in today’s digital-first economy.

He joined Bank of America in 2015 as an Assistant Vice President. Through a blend of technical expertise, strategic thinking, and leadership, he quickly advanced becoming Vice President within two years and Senior Vice President by 2019.

Over the years, he led large-scale initiatives in fraud prevention and risk management, playing a key role in safeguarding customers and businesses in an increasingly digital financial ecosystem.

Yet, even as his career flourished abroad, his connection to India remained strong.

Koushik actively contributed to community development, supported government schools, invested in infrastructure improvements, and mentored students and young professionals. These experiences gradually shaped a larger vision—one where global expertise could be applied to local challenges.

As his perspective evolved, so did his purpose.

He recognized that the capabilities built in global corporations data-driven decision-making, operational excellence, and technological innovation could meaningfully impact communities and public systems in India. That realization ultimately brought him back.

Today, Koushik serves as Vice President of Payments and Fraud Risk at EXL, where he leads a team of over 150 professionals across global payments, analytics, and fraud prevention functions.

While his corporate role continues to focus on solving complex business problems, his broader mission extends beyond organizational boundaries.

He is deeply committed to bridging the gap between technology and societal impact. He believes India is at a pivotal moment, where digital transformation, entrepreneurship and civic engagement can collectively drive meaningful progress.

As he puts it, “Professional success should enable us to serve at a larger scale. The true measure of achievement lies not in what we accumulate, but in the impact we create.”

Looking ahead, Koushik aims to contribute more actively to initiatives in education, community development, digital governance and public service.

His journey is a powerful reminder that global success and local impact are not mutually exclusive they can, in fact, reinforce one another.
